Iko, Dewi Sinta, before 1923, teak, 55 x 17 x 13 cm, private collection. Signed as ‘dewisinta iso.’
This is another goddess known from, among other things, the wajang. A striking feature of this statue is the cord that falls over her right shoulder and runs down the front to her hip, curling upwards to just below her waist where it terminates in a serpent’s head (naga). The kain features a pattern resembling a variation of a nitik motif (Samsi, Batik, Yogya & Solo, 346-387). The statue was purchased from the Venduehuis in The Hague.
