Iko & J. Schmutzer (design) Sacred Heart (3), 1924-1925, teak, 74 x 37 x 28 cm, private collection Schmutzer.

This example differs from the two above with regard to the backrest of the seat. It has the same design as that of the Madonna and Child described below and is likely derived from that of the Prajnaparamita from Singosari. Furthermore, the shoulders of this example appear somewhat less beautifully proportioned, and Christ’s curled locks appear somewhat longer than in the other two versions. The crown and the decorations also differ in detail from the other two statues. An important and notable difference concerns the sarong. A kawong pattern is visible on it. The pattern is similar to a “kawung cacah gori” or a “kawung uter” (Samsi, Batik, Yogya & Solo, 235, 249). However, the parang roesaq pattern would have been a more common pattern for a ruler, as the kawong pattern is of lower status. It was therefore primarily intended for statues of the Madonna.
