Iko, presumably before 1908, Replica of a statue from Candi Mendut, stone (presumably andesite), height 50 cm, Wereldmuseum, Leiden, inv. nr. RV-3600-533
This statuette is a replica of a presumed bodhisattva statuette from the Buddhist temple Candi Mendut near Borobudur. The statuette has been in the collection of the former Tropenmuseum Amsterdam since January 1, 1959. It is not entirely certain whether it can be attributed to Iko, but it bears an inscription “Tjandimendoet Batarassetijamani Iko,” making this highly likely. The dating is unknown, but since Iko, as far as we know, no longer worked in stone after 1911, it must be placed early in his oeuvre.
